robert jones I listened to the new album 2,112 times this week alone, and can say it is crazy good! BUG CHASER had their album release party last night at Off Broadway Night Club. And the last time I saw them was maybe as much as a couple of years ago. Well since then they really got good. Partly because they play out pretty much and all over the county at times. They kicked ass. They were very tight too. I would label it as modern progressive punk. But I don't know what genre it is really labeled. It was LOUD! Very high energy songs with lots of cool changes and chords. Vocals are kinda like The Violent Femmes if anybody has ever heard of them, but with more high pitched ear piercing screams. I wouldn't be able to talk for two weeks if I could sing like that...lol Pat is the singer and has great stage personality. It's like my sister
and I were talking to him before they started and when he hit the stage it was like a completely different person. That's the power of rock! Wow I didn't expect that. They were on stage and we were in the balcony section. There were two opening acts as well. So when BUG CHASER were on stage getting ready to start they were The kinda talking to each other and being very casual. The next thing you know BAM! They started just like that. I didn't even hear the four count for their first song. They were very relaxed and professional like you would expect from a band that plays out a lot. All their songs are high tempo and powerful! No ballads? lol They played their new album in its entirety and that's all. It was about an hour or so long. My sister and I were blown away by the aura they projected to the audience, and it was probably mostly young people. But I saw a good share of older peeps like in their 30's...lol After that barrage of pure aggressive power and showmanship had ended, we went down stairs to the floor. So we wanted to say high and or bye to the band and tell them what we thought.
I didn't get to see them all I think we missed one of two drummers Taylor. Oh so that reminds me to tell the members names. Singer Pat Grosch, guitars Jacob (Jake) Jones and Zeng Zengerling, bass Matty Coonfield, keyboards Jake Bremler, drummers Taylor Fogel and Kevin Insinna, Samples and sound effects Jeff White. They had a merchandise table with the normal stuff you see at concerts, like albums, t-shirts, buttons...etc, and they had a lot of people wanting to buy stuff. It was funny because it was just like you see at a concert...lol I looked at the all the different people's faces, and most of them were smiling with the pure joy they got from the show. As we were walking out I saw a lot of people with their new album in hand. They have several albums, some full length and some just a few songs. BUG CHASER started out as a different name God Fodder I think that's how they spelled it, and then in 2010 they added more members and the band kinda evolved into what they are today. BUG CHASER! So that concludes my review. I probably made multiple mistakes in this review so please forgive me. I don't work as a columnist for the fucking Post Dispatch... lol Favorite track: Joy Pop.
